Subsistema mixto’s old age pension based on ILO standards

Abstract

This research aims to determine the adequacy of the old-age pension delivered by the Subsistema Mixto of the Riesgo de Invalidez, Vejez y Muerte of Caja de Seguro Social (Mixed Subsystem of the Risk of Disability, Old Age and Death of the Social Security Fund). To this aim, the basis of this evaluation is the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) social security standards regarding old-age benefits. These standards were operationalized and translated into evaluation rubrics that enabled the description of the specific aspects in which the object of study fulfils such standards, taking as reference the year 2021. The research was quantitative, descriptive, transversal and inductive reasoning, supported by documentary analysis of laws and statistical reports. The results show that the old-age pension provided by this scheme fulfils most of the standards. However, it is evident that there is a considerable deficit in respect to the standards related to benefits.
