Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the statistical descriptive behavior of ultraviolet radiation in the city of Maracaibo during the period august 01 to august 31, 2012. It is an exploratory, ex post facto, comparison with data from September 01 through 30 o fthe month of July in the same year. Data was recorded at the meteorological station Meteo Urbe-1, located at the Universidad Rafael Belloso Chacin. Analysis is performed using the Ultraviolet Index (UVI). It was noted that in the hours between 10:00 am. and 3:00 pm., the UVI values were in high or very high ranges according to standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO). The study recommends some measures to be taken by citizens to minimize the effect of this radiation on humans, particularly on children and the elderly.
